Four steps to the perfect questionnaire (07 Nov 17)

“Everyone thinks he or she can write good survey questions”[1] yet “even after years of experience, no expert can write a perfect questionnaire.”[2]

In order to be successful at writing effective survey questions and an overall questionnaire, training is required.

You need to focus on what goes on in respondents’ minds from the time they hear or read a survey question, to the point where they say or write their answer. A useful framework is the four cognitive steps from cognitive psychology .[3]

That's really useful - whilst I have been aware to varying degrees of these issues the framework created around COMPREHENSION, RECALL, JUDGMENT and RESPONSE offers a more methodical and effective approach.
