How to write policies and strategy reports
Never has a skill been so useful and more timely than this one
Are you being increasingly asked to write and present strategies or policies?
If so, read on because this may be the most useful invitation you get over the next few months.
You don’t need me to tell you that having effective policies and strategies is more important than ever.
So if you’re good at thinking through and writing up strategies and policies, you’re going to be in demand.
It also means that if you can’t, that will weigh against you.
To write a good strategy or policy document you must be able to write a well structured, coherent document which is written in the right language for the audience it is aimed at.
You need to know how to use illustrative material, how to signpost readers through the document, how to write abstracts and how to write executive summaries. And you need to know how to write conclusions, recommendations and action plans that are backed up with evidence.
If you and your colleagues can do all these things well - and so make better decisions - your organisation stands a better chance of getting through the next few months in one piece.
These are some of the many reasons why we are putting on this entirely new one day course.
The course is designed for anyone who has to write strategy documents or policies and who wants to make sure that their written work communicates effectively and informs decisions correctly.
The key topics will be introduced through presentations and the use of live materials and case studies.
We’ll cover all of the areas I have mentioned plus:
- What strategies, policies and procedures mean in an organizational context
- How to choose an appropriate style of document for your chosen audience
- How to “pitch” language at an appropriate level
- How to structure a document in a logical and coherent manner
- How to set objectives
- How to use illustrative material such as charts and diagrams
- How to use Appendix Material
- How to write Conclusions, Recommendations and Action Plans
- How to write Executive Summaries
