How to measure the satisfaction of volunteers - In house course

Don’t guess whether your volunteers are happy and content. Measure!

It's crucial to ensure that volunteers have the best possible experience during their time with an organisation.

A happy and contented volunteer is more likely to stay involved in the long term, will perform their role more effectively and will experience a greater range of personal benefits.

In a time when volunteering rates are decreasing nationally and organisations have less money to invest in volunteer management, it’s even more important that we are able to effectively understand and measure volunteer satisfaction.

It’s worth remembering though that because volunteers don’t get paid, their satisfaction and contentment with what they do is highly important.

Countless projects and services simply wouldn’t survive if the volunteers operating them weren’t happy and committed to what they were doing.

It’s vital that you know what motivates them, what keeps them committed and what is likely to make them stay.

There are a wide range of factors that affect volunteer satisfaction, including the extent to which the role they perform matches their original motivations, the quality of the support, management and training they receive and the extent of opportunities to gain skills and qualifications.

These are all areas you must consider if you are to understand what makes your volunteers tick.

In this one hour session on the Internet you are exposed to the latest research and thinking on how to measure volunteer satisfaction.

And you have a great opportunity to ask questions about what to measure and what not to measure.

Apart from all the topics I have mentioned you will cover these areas:

Why is it important to measure volunteer satisfaction?
What factors affect the level of satisfaction among volunteers?
What methodologies and tools can you use to measure volunteer satisfaction?
How can you involve volunteers in the process, from data collection to feeding back the findings?
What ethical and data protection issues do you need to consider?
What are some of the limitations, challenges and pitfalls of measuring volunteer satisfaction?
